New York, Sept. 14 -- Alexander Zverev clinched his second Grand Slam title of the year by defeating American Ben Shelton 6-3, 7-6(2), 5-7, 6-2 in the US Open men's singles final here on Sunday.

The top-seeded German, who won his maiden major at the French Open earlier this year, overcame a spirited challenge from Shelton to add another Grand Slam crown to his collection.

Zverev, 29, broke Shelton early in the opening set and maintained control before securing another break at 5-3 to take the set. The German then dominated the second-set tiebreak, winning the first five points to move two sets ahead.
