Lucknow, May 26 -- Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh over the law and order situation, and alleged fake encounters, inflation, power crisis, and rising crimes against women.

Addressing a press conference held here, Akhilesh Yadav alleged that fake encounters have become a "sensitive issue" in the state, and that people from the PDA( backward classes, Dalits, and minorities) are the most targeted.

He charged that in a democracy, the rule of law should prevail, not "might is right." The SP chief claimed that encounters are creating an atmosphere of fear in society.
