Panchkula, Aug. 16 -- The All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) has strongly opposed privatisation of electricity distribution in any form and called upon the Centre and state governments to pursue reforms suited to India's requirements.

The federation said reforms in the electricity sector should aim at providing consumers affordable, accessible, reliable and accountable electricity, and maintained that privatisation was not the solution.

AIPEF spokesperson V.K. Gupta said on Sunday that the Centre and various state governments should move away from what he described as outdated approaches to power-sector reforms and instead focus on efficiency, accessibility, reliability, competence and universal accountability.
