Bengaluru, June 14 -- Acknowledging the growing impact of artificial intelligence on employment, union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday said industries are increasingly using AI to perform tasks previously handled by people, triggering a major churn in the labour market and making reskilling and upskilling critical for India's workforce.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP's Bengaluru Rural office in Devanahalli, Sitharaman said the government was responding to the changing employment landscape through skill development initiatives, AI-focused training programmes and industry-linked internship opportunities.
