Chennai, Aug. 19 -- Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay was on Wednesday appointed as the Vice-Chairman of the Southern Zonal Council (SZC) ahead of its 31st meet to be chaired by union Home Amit Shah at Mahabalipuram, about 55 km from here, tomorrow, even as the meet has opened up the possibility of direct interactions with Vijay and his Karnataka counterpart DK.Shivakumar in a bid to arrive at a amicable solution to the Cauvery and Mekedatu dam issues.

The SZC comprises the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Keralam, Tamil Nadu and Telangana, and the union Territories of Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.
