Kodagu, May 20 -- A day after a 33-year-old woman tourist was killed in an elephant clash at the Dubare Elephant Camp in Karnataka's Kodagu district, one of the elephants involved, Marthanda, died of its injuries, officials said on Monday.

Marthanda, a 35-year-old male elephant, had sustained severe injuries during a confrontation with another elephant, Kanjan, during a bathing session in the Cauvery river at the camp. The animal reportedly succumbed to complications arising from the injuries sustained in the fight.

The incident had earlier claimed the life of a 33-year-old Chennai-based tourist, who was watching the elephant bathing activity when the clash broke out. In the chaos, one elephant fell, and the victim was crushed beneath.
