Chennai, Feb. 26 -- Scores of people bade a tearful adieu, as the final journey of veteran Communist leader and CPI Stalwart, centenarian R Nallakannu, who died at the age of 101 due to old age-related problems, began on Thursday afternoon.

The ambulance carrying the mortal remains of Nallkannu, who was one of the Founding members of the Communist movement in India, began from the CPI party office "Balan Illam" in the city and headed towards Madras Medical Hospital where it would be handed over for research as per his last wish.

Mr Nallakannu breathed his last at 1.55 pm yesterday at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital since February one, where various political party leaders visited and paid their last respects.
