Guwahati, April 8 -- After a high-voltage no-holds-barred campaign, the 126-seat Assam Assembly is set to go to the hustings in a single phase amidst stringent security on Thursday to elect the next government in the crucial state, considered the gateway to North East India.

The BJP-led NDA, which has been governing the state since 2016, is fighting to retain power by highlighting what it calls "massive development" and extensive measures against infiltrators undertaken during its rule.
