Ratnagiri, May 30 -- Continuous adverse weather conditions over the past several months have severely impacted mango and cashew growers in the Konkan region, the backbone of the local economy.
According to a joint report prepared by the Konkan Agricultural University and the Agriculture Department, nearly 90 percent of mango and cashew production in Ratnagiri district has been affected this season.
Following the natural calamity, the Agriculture and Revenue Departments launched a large-scale survey drive on a war footing. Officials have completed damage assessment reports for 48,791 hectares of orchard land belonging to 56,420 farmers across the district.
