Nahan, April 15 -- The Forest Department has taken major action in the case of smuggling of the rare ferns "Birna" in the Ghats forest area, a forest reserve under the Sangrah Forest Board.

The Forest Department has seized a pickup vehicle and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on the accused. According to reports, the Forest Department team stopped a pickup truck with number HP-08-0220 during a search at Piulilani on the Sangrah-Gattadhar road. Upon searching the vehicle, approximately one quintal of Birna fern was recovered, which was being illegally transported.
