Chennai, June 10 -- Acclaimed tamil film director and actor Bharathiraja passed away in the early hours of Wednesday following age-related health complications.

He was 84.

Winner of six national awards, who had directed several landmark films which were mostly shot on rural ambience and focussed on issues concerning the society, had been undergoing treatmentfor the last few months due to old age related ailments and and stayed away from public appearance.
