Kolkata, June 3 -- Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Wednesday approached the Calcutta High Court seeking protection from arrest in connection with the CID investigation into the alleged signature discrepancies in a letter submitted to the West Bengal Assembly regarding the appointment of the Leader of the Opposition.
Banerjee has sought legal protection from coercive action by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), including arrest, while challenging the notice issued to him by the investigating agency.
The matter is likely to come up for hearing on Friday before the bench of Justice Apurba Sinha Ray, which has permitted him to file the petition.
