Kolkata, Aug. 25 -- Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee has secured interim protection from arrest in three FIRs registered against him at Bhabanipur police station in Kolkata and Kalitala and Bishnupur police stations in South 24 Parganas.

The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday extended the protection till November 30, observing that there was no need to take Banerjee into custody for questioning in the cases.

Justice Sougata Bhattacharya, however, directed Banerjee to cooperate with the investigation.

If the investigating agency requires his presence, it must inform him at least 48 hours in advance, the court said.
