Kochi, June 4 -- Global technology company ABB has partnered with Cochin Shipyard Limited to support India's ambitious Green Tug Transition Programme (GTTP) by supplying advanced power and propulsion systems for two electric harbour tugs currently under construction at the Kochi-based shipyard.
The electric tugs, scheduled for delivery to Polestar Maritime in 2027, will operate at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), India's largest container port handling nearly half of the country's containerized cargo traffic.
The vessels are part of the first phase of the GTTP, a national initiative aimed at replacing conventional diesel-powered harbour tugs with environmentally sustainable alternatives in phases between 2024 and 2040.
