Chandigarh, May 29 -- The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) emerged as the dominant force in Punjab's urban local body elections, securing victories in 954 wards across municipal corporations, municipal councils and nagar panchayats, reinforcing its position ahead of the 2027 Assembly polls.
The results of elections held on May 26 for eight municipal corporations, 75 municipal councils and 20 nagar panchayats were declared on Friday.
While AAP registered a comprehensive statewide lead, Congress finished as the second-largest political force, with independent candidates also making a notable impact in several local bodies.
