Nongpoh, May 9 -- Chief Justice of India (CJI,) Surya Kant on Saturday said access to justice and welfare cannot remain dependent on a citizen's ability to navigate distant and complicated systems.

Inaugurating a mega camp-cum-awareness programme on National Legal Services Authority and government welfare schemes under the theme 'Bridging the Gap' at Marngar village in Meghalaya's Ri Bhoi district, Kant emphasised that government institutions must learn to move closer to the people.

Advocating establishing legal facilitation desks in government hospitals, the CJI said citizens need to know their rights while visiting hospitals.
