A criminal, on whose head Rs 2 lakh reward has been announced, was shot dead in encounter in Ayodhya

Ayodhya, June 8 -- The Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh police has gunned down a dreaded criminal Bhanu Pratap Singh, alias Bablu, carrying a reward of Rs 2 lakh, late on Sunday night.

According to police here on Monday, STF received information that the accused was fleeing on a bike with an accomplice. When the team tried to stop him, he opened fire. Later in a retaliatory fire, the criminal was shot dead .

The encounter occurred around 11 p.m. near Amy Ghat in the Maharajganj police station area. The criminal's accomplice took advantage of the darkness and escaped.

The deceased criminal Bhanu Pratap was a resident of Gorakhpur.
