Hyderabad, July 17 -- The Telangana Food Safety Department has seized 850 kg of suspected adulterated ghee during a statewide special enforcement drive conducted on July 14 and 15 to curb the manufacture and sale of substandard ghee, Food Safety Commissioner Dr Sangeetha Satyanarayana said on Friday.

Acting on credible information about the alleged mixing of palm oil and vanaspati with ghee, Food Safety Officers, in coordination with the police, carried out inspections across the state. Preliminary findings indicated the presence of foreign fats in ghee manufactured by some licensed units, while several establishments were found operating without the required licence or registration.
