Puducherry, April 9 -- An estimated 72.71 per cent of the total 9.53 electorate have cast their ballots till 1500 hrs, as the polling to elect the 30-member Puducherry Territorial Assembly progressed peacefully, amid tight security.
Very brisk turnout was witnessed in all the 1,099 booths right from commencement of polling at 7.00 AM.
Election Commission of India officials said the voting percentage increased significiantly from 17.41 per cent in the first two hours to 72.271 per cent till 1500 hrs as the polling to decide the fate of 294 candidates in the fray, was proceeding smoothly.
Police said no major untoward incident was reported in any part of the union Territory and polling was being held peacefully.
