Bhubaneswar, Aug. 3 -- The union Government on Monday informed the Rajya Sabha that Odisha's railway network has witnessed unprecedented expansion, with 55 projects worth Rs 81,739 crore currently under various stages of implementation. It said new railway projects are sanctioned after considering factors such as connectivity requirements, traffic demand, socio-economic benefits, operational priorities, and overall availability of funds.

Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Sulata Deo raised the question, seeking to know whether the Ministry of Railways had undertaken any comprehensive study to identify unserved districts and major growth centres in Odisha requiring rail connectivity.
