Dharamshala, Sept. 2 -- Himachal Pradesh's green transport initiative is gaining momentum in Kangra district, where 45 electric buses are currently operating on various routes, offering passengers cleaner, quieter and more comfortable travel.

HRTC Divisional Manager Engineer Pankaj Chadha said the CCTV-equipped electric buses are safe, environment-friendly and generate significantly less noise. The buses can begin operation only after both doors are completely closed, enhancing passenger safety.

The shift to electric mobility has also brought down operational costs considerably. While diesel buses cost around Rs 25-26 per km to operate, the operating cost of electric buses is approximately Rs 11-12 per km.
