Mumbai, Sept. 3 -- Thirty-eight people, including 34 passengers, were safely rescued after a ferry developed a technical snag and broke down in the sea off the Gateway of India late Thursday evening, police said.
The ferry Anvari, which had left the Gateway for a half-an-hour joyride, suffered the technical failure at around 2030 hours and came to a halt nearly 1.5 nautical miles from the shores. Four crew members were also on board.
On receiving information, police personnel immediately began contacting boats in the vicinity for assistance.
Police subsequently learnt that another ferry, Azad Hind, was operating nearby. Its owner, Juned Mulla, was contacted and the crew was asked to rush to the stranded vessel.
