Bhubaneswar, Aug. 28 -- Food safety officials have seized and destroyed 3,605 kg of substandard sweets and stale food during a three-day enforcement drive across Odisha since August 26, officials said on Friday.

Raids were conducted at food establishments in all 30 districts and six municipal corporations, State Food Safety Commissioner Dr Poma Tudu said.

The joint teams collected 475 suspected food samples for chemical analysis, while Rs 2.84 lakh was collected as a penalty from shop owners. Notices were served on 189 food establishments.

Further legal action will be taken based on the test reports and replies to the notices, said Dr Pratikshya Mohapatra, Designated Officer, Food Safety, State Headquarters.
