Nagpur, July 15 -- : Only 298 villages and 32,198 families have so far been voluntarily relocated from the critical tiger habitats (core areas) of India's tiger reserves, while nearly 98,000 families continue to live within these protected zones, according to the National Tiger Conservation Authority's (NTCA) latest STRIDES 2026 report.
The report states that of the 1,040 villages originally identified within tiger reserve core areas across the country, relocation has been completed in only 298 villages (28 per cent).
At the family level, only 32,198 of the 1,29,984 identified families have been resettled, leaving 97,786 families (around 72 per cent) still residing inside core habitats.
