Chennai, July 17 -- The Additional District and Sessions Court has deferred pronouncement of the quantum of sentence in a 2013 fatal drunken driving case to July 30, as the main accused and convicted Empee Group scion Shaji Purushothaman failed to appear before the court.
When VII Additional District and Sessions Judge P Srikumar, who had earlier convicted him and issued a NBW against Shaji as he did not appear before the court when the judgment was delivered, took up the matter on Thursday evening for pronouncing the quantum of sentence, counsel for the accused said an appeal challenging the conviction had been filed before the Supreme Court following whichthe sentencing was deferred to July 30. .
