Chandigarh, Oct. 15 -- Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL) on Thursday said it had detected electricity theft involving the illegal charging of 20 e-rickshaws in Manimajra, with an estimated connected load of 30 kilowatts (kW).
The theft was uncovered during an enforcement drive in Shastri Nagar, where a consumer holding a registered electricity connection was allegedly drawing power directly from the company's low-voltage distribution mains, bypassing the authorised supply system.
CPDL said its inspection team found that the unauthorised connection was being used to charge 20 e-rickshaws, posing potential electrical safety risks besides causing revenue losses to the distribution utility.
