Palghar, Sept. 25 -- The body of a 15-year-old boy who went missing after entering the sea to retrieve a football at Suruchi Beach in Vasai on Ganesh Chaturthi was recovered 12 days later near Mordi, close to the Gujarat border in Palghar district, police said.
The deceased, identified as Ankit Gupta, a resident of the Rashmi area of Naigaon, had gone to Suruchi Beach with his friends on September 14 to play football.
During the game, the ball went into the sea and Ankit entered the water to retrieve it. He was swept away by strong currents and went missing.
Following the incident, teams from the Vasai Police, fire brigade and Indian Coast Guard launched a search operation along the coast and in the sea.
