Bengaluru, March 6 -- The government of Karnataka has announced a series of welfare and education-focused measures for minority communities in the 2026-27 state budget, with special emphasis on academic infrastructure, skill development and social empowerment.

As part of the proposals, 117 Maulana Azad Model Schools and Urdu schools will be upgraded into Karnataka Public Schools at a cost of Rs 600 crore. An additional 100 minority schools will also be upgraded with an allocation of Rs 400 crore to improve quality education access.

The government has also announced the establishment of 10 Saint Shishunala Shariff Residential Schools following the CBSE curriculum, with plans to expand by opening 25 more such schools in the coming year.
