Rajshahi, March 18 -- Over 112 passengers are confirmed injured after nine coaches of the Dhaka-bound intercity train Nilsagar Express, enroute to Chilahati, derailed on Wednesday near Bagbari, close to Santahar Junction in Bogura, disrupting train services on northern Bangladesh's key routes.
The derailment comes during peak pre-Eid travel, when millions of people travel from Dhaka to their ancestral villages, often posing great safety risks.
As the train was packed with homebound passengers - many of whom were riding on the roof due to the extreme ticket demand - the incident led to a great many injuries, as rescue efforts are currently ongoing with engineers working on the double to restore the line.
