Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 1 -- Kerala remained in the grip of one of the season's worst spells of monsoon rain on Saturday, with incessant downpours triggering landslides, flash floods and widespread destruction across the State.
A woman was killed, two persons went missing, several others were trapped under landslide debris, roads were washed away, rivers overflowed and thousands of people faced the threat of flooding as the situation turned extremely critical in the high-range districts.
The State Government declared a holiday for all educational institutions in Kottayam, Idukki, Pathanamthitta, Wayanad, Malappuram and Alappuzha districts in view of the severe weather conditions.
