Los Angeles, Sept. 28 -- American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift paid a heartfelt tribute to late music icon Dolly Parton at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, while also making history as the most-awarded artist in the ceremony's history.

Swift expressed admiration for Parton's legacy and thanked her fans and MTV as she accepted multiple honours.

Upon receiving one of her awards, she said that she would be a fan of Dolly Parton for life.

"Everything that happened in her life or her career, she channeled back into love and gratitude and appreciation for her fans," she said, as Variety reported.

Dolly Parton passed away at the age of 80 after a "brief battle" with cancer at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Centre in Nashville on August 25.
