Jaishankar said on Saturday, underlining that New Delhi's decision was guided by compassion and international maritime law following the sinking of another Iranian warship in the Indian Ocean.

Speaking at the Raisina Dialogue 2026, Jaishankar said India handled the situation in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) while also responding to the humanitarian circumstances surrounding the Iranian sailors.
