Lucknow, April 10 -- In a quiet but significant cultural shift, Uttar Pradesh is turning its attention to voices that risk being lost with time. Through the 'Sampada' programme, the state is documenting fading folk traditions and creating a living archive of songs, stories and oral histories that once defined everyday life across regions.
The initiative, led jointly by the Uttar Pradesh Folk and Tribal Cultural Institute and the Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi, is focused on recording traditional folk forms performed by artists aged 60 and above. The effort is not just about preservation, but about reclaiming a cultural memory that is fast disappearing.
