New Delhi, Aug. 10 -- The Supreme Court on Monday permitted Trinamool Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee to travel abroad for three weeks to undergo eye treatment.
A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and comprising Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana allowed Banerjee's plea challenging the Calcutta High Court's refusal to relax the restriction on his foreign travel. The restriction was imposed as a condition for protection from arrest in a case concerning an alleged provocative remark made during the 2026 State Assembly election campaign.
The court directed Banerjee to travel only on his diplomatic passport and share his itinerary and place of stay with the investigating agency.
