Dhaka, Sept. 8 -- An unidentified young man, suspected of being a thief, died after allegedly being beaten by Ansar members at the Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) office in the capital's Tejgaon Industrial Area on Tuesday.

The deceased, aged around 25, was taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in an unconscious condition, where doctors declared him dead around 3:00pm.

The incident occurred at the BTCL office in Satrasta area under Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station.

Mohammad Saiful, an office assistant at BTCL who took the youth to the hospital, said three people entered the office in the Satrasta area in the morning allegedly with the intention of stealing.
