Cumilla, July 26 -- A young man was hacked to death at Gauripur Bus Stand along the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Md Al-Mamun, also known as Mamun Samrat, son of Mosharraf Hossain alias Mukbul Member, of Sholakandi village in Titas upazila.

According to police and witnesses, Mamun was travelling on an air-conditioned bus from Dhaka to Cox's Bazar, accompanied by three women. Around 11:30pm, he got off the bus at Gauripur Bus Stand to buy water.

Moments after stepping off, a group of unidentified assailants ambushed him and hacked him repeatedly on the head with machetes. The attackers left only after confirming his death.
