Dhaka, Oct. 18 -- World Bank Group President Ajay Banga has sounded the alarm on a looming global employment crisis, warning that over the next decade to 15 years, 120 crore young people will enter a job market projected to yield only about 40 crore jobs.

Delivering his concluding address at the Annual Meetings 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand, ended on October 18, Banga framed this massive deficit-amounting to an 80 crore- job gap-as the defining arithmetic challenge of our time.

He emphasized that addressing this crisis is vital not only for economic stability but for human dignity, noting that a job represents "the difference between a young person who can build a future; and a young person awaiting one".
