, Aug. 27 -- Two children drowned in a pond at Ekhulia Sikdar Bari in Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram district on Thursday morning.

The deceased were identified as Zahid, 8, and Tasin, 8. Both were students of Ekhulia Darus Sunnah Noorani Madrassah.

Local people said four children went to a nearby pond to take a bath after returning home from madrassah. At one point, Zahid and Tasin drowned.

Seeing the children struggling in the pond, a man identified as Yakub, jumped into the water and rescued them.

Niranjan Sarker, a health assistant at the emergency department of the Fatikchhari Health Complex, said the two children had already died before they were brought to the hospital.
