Dhaka, Sept. 27 -- month-old girl died after falling from a second-floor staircase at Sattola slum in the capital's Banani area on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Khadija Akter, daughter of Dulal Hossain, who works as a cleaner.

Dulal said Khadija's mother was busy with household work in the morning when the child accidentally fell from the second-floor staircase.

She was rescued in critical condition and taken to a local hospital. As her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the afternoon, where doctors declared her dead.

Dulal said he is from Shariakandi upazila of Bogura and currently lives in the Sattola slum in Banani.
