, Aug. 22 -- 1 constituency has fallen vacant as Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who was elected MP from the seat in the February 12 election, assumed office as the country's 23rd President on Friday evening.

"Since Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir assumed the office of President at 7:30pm on August 21, 2026, his Thakurgaon-1 seat has become vacant in accordance with Article 50(4) of the Constitution," said a press release issued by the Parliament Secretariat on Saturday.

Mirza Fakhrul took oath as President at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban on Friday evening.
