Gazipur, Nov. 5 -- A Gazipur tribunal on Thursday sentenced a schoolteacher to life imprisonment for raping a six-year-old student in 2019.

Gazipur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Abu Bakar Siddique pronounced the verdict.

The convict was identified as Anwar Hossain Khan, son of Karim Khan and an assistant teacher at a local school in the Gacha area of Gazipur city. He was tried in absentia.

The tribunal also fined him Tk 1 lakh and ordered that the amount be paid to the victim. It directed that his immovable property be sold if he failed to pay the fine.
