Dhaka, May 16 -- Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon on Saturday said a special initiative has been taken to sustain the single cinema halls across the country as the declining number of cinema halls as one of the major crises facing the country's film industry.

"The government has taken a special initiative to preserve and modernise single cinema halls," he said, while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the National Film Society Conference 2026 in the city.
