, Sept. 15 -- A Rangamati court on Tuesday sentenced a man and his cousin to death for killing the man's father in 2017.

Rangamati District and Sessions Judge Md Ahsan Tarek handed down the punishment.

The condemned convicts are Sohel Chakma, 32, and his cousin Alomoy Chakma, 32, of Sajek in Rangamati. The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each.

Of them, Alomoy was tried in absentia.

According to the prosecution, Shanti Lal Chakma, 56, father of convict Sohel Chakma and a resident of Uttar Bhaibonchhara area, was strangled and hacked to death by his son Sohel and nephew Alomoy on August 6, 2017.

Later, they dumped Shanti Lal's body into the Gangaram River.
