Dhaka, Nov. 2 -- The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Monday upheld a High Court order granting bail to former lawmaker Major (retd) Akhtaruzzaman in a case filed over allegedly obstructing government work and misbehaving with officials at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Md Rezaul Haque passed the order, rejecting a petition filed by the state challenging the High Court bail.

With the apex court order, there is no bar to Akhtaruzzaman's release, said his lawyer Mohammad Shishir Manir.

Earlier on Sunday, the High Court granted bail to Akhtaruzzaman, who was expelled from BNP several times and joined Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in December 2025, in the case.
