Saudi Arabia issues aerial threat alerts as Mideast tensions persist
, Sept. 19 -- Saudi Arabia warned of a "hostile aerial threat" and issued a series of emergency alerts across the country late Friday and early Saturday, with at least one explosion heard in the capital, Riyadh.
No casualties or damage were reported after the alerts were lifted. Saudi authorities did not say what triggered the warnings or explain the reported explosions. However, they have previously said they intercepted missiles and drones launched by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.
The alert in Riyadh was the first reported warning in the Saudi capital since the latest escalation involving the Houthis.
