Dhaka, Sept. 14 -- The Ministry of Commerce has declared vacant the post of Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) president, removing Md Ali Afzal from the position after a Bangladesh Bank report identified him as a loan defaulter.

A notification to this effect was issued on Monday, signed by Choudhury Samiya Yesmin, deputy secretary of the ministry's Trade Organization-2 branch.

According to the notification, a Bangladesh Bank Credit Information Bureau (CIB) report identified Ali Afzal as a loan defaulter in his capacity as a director of a defaulting company.

Following the finding, his position as REHAB president was declared vacant under Section 23(1)(b) of the Trade Organizations Act, 2022, it said.
