, Sept. 7 -- The government has appointed Additional Secretary Md Rafiqul Islam as chairman of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), ending months of frequent leadership changes at the top of the state-owned petroleum agency.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification on Sunday announcing his appointment. An earlier order transferring him to the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs as an additional secretary has been cancelled.

Rafiqul Islam, who was serving as a Member of the Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council (BEPRC), takes charge following a series of top-level shuffles at the BPC since the beginning of this year.
