Dhaka, July 5 -- Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury on Sunday stressed the need to strengthen the capacityand professionalism of the Statistics and Informatics Division (SID) and the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), saying greater public confidence in official statistics depends on credible and transparent data.

Speaking at an view-exchange meeting with officials of the SID and BBS in Dhaka, the minister emphasised the importance of ensuring the independence of official data publication and enhancing the institutional capacity of the country's national statistical agency, according to a Planning Ministry statement .
