Dhaka, June 27 -- Bangladesh Police on Saturday dismissed as false a social media claim that the bodies of several Awami League and Chhatra League leaders and activists had been found floating in the Turag River, urging people not to be misled by what it described as a baseless rumour.

In a statement, Police Headquarters said a post circulating on social media under the headline "Bodies of seven Awami League-Chhatra League leaders and activists found floating in the Turag River" was completely unfounded and aimed at creating confusion among the public.

Police said no such incident had been reported.
