Dhaka, July 28 -- Bangladesh Police arrested 39,267 people across the country during a special operation conducted from May 1 to July 27, said a statement issued by police headquarters on Tuesday.

Besides those arrested in the special drive, another 102,722 people were arrested in various cases and other operations during the period.

This brings the total number of arrests under the special drive and other cases to 141,989, said the statement.

During the operations, police recovered 325 firearms, 2,802 rounds of bullets and cartridges, 103 magazines, 46 cocktails, 2.25 kg of gunpowder, 638 locally made weapons, 18 firearm components, 17 pieces of weapons- and bomb-making equipment, and 10,300 chocolate firecrackers.
